Arlee to offer a Journey to Middle Earth:
”Lord of the Rings” marathon to play on the big screen
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of “Return of the King,” the third movie of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, the Arlee will host showings of the Extended Edition of the trilogy, especially focusing on a fan-focused marathon event.
Sponsored by Leveldale Farms & SJB Promotions, the Ultimate Fan Marathon will start at 10am on Saturday, April 29 and play the extended edition of all three live-action films back to back. Snacks will, as always, be available at the Arlee’s concession stand (including special themed snacks and beverages), plus there will be an option for attendees to order boxed lunches from Subway, delivered in time for Afternoon Tea of course. Special prizes will be available for the pair who win the “Sam & Frodo Award” - the person who travels the furthest to get to the event, and the person who helped get them there (whether they were the one who told them about the marathon, gave the most encouragement, provided transportation, or assisted in some other way). Bring the whole fellowship, and Second Breakfast is on the house! Any nine heroes that attend the event together will be given rations of Lembas bread, to help satisfy them during their trial of cinematic endurance. Costumes are encouraged, but not mandatory, and additional prizes for surprise categories will be announced the day of the event.
The doors will open at 9:30am, and the marathon will begin at 10am. Admission is $30 per person, which includes a souvenir tankard* that can be refilled during the event for fifty cents. Advanced tickets for the marathon may be purchased at the Arlee concession stand during normal operating hours or online at www.arleetheater.com (a surcharge will apply to online purchases). Online tickets are subject to a $3 surcharge. For out of town guests, please note that the Arlee is typically cash-only, including at the concession stand. Most concessions are in the $2-3 range. Boxed lunches ($6.50) from Subway will be available to order, with delivery being during the intermissions.
On-screen captions will be used during the marathon on 4/29. The individual shows on 4/28 & 4/30 will not have captions, but CC devices will be available upon request.
Individual showings of “Fellowship of the Ring” will be on Friday, 4/28 at 7 PM, and “Return of the King” will play at 2 PM on Sunday, 4/30, both with admission being at the Arlee’s usual price of $5. Any extra tankards may be purchased at these shows as well.
*tankards available while supplies last; although running out is not anticipated.
